Writing Task One (tables of figures) – 14/02/2019

The table shows the expenditure on various types of food in Italy in 1992, 2002 and 2012.

The table illustrates the changes in spending on seven different foodstuffs in Italy over a 20-year period from 1992 to 2012.

In general, Italians spent more money on beef and chicken than on the other types of food over the whole period. In addition, the figures for butter/margarine and coffee remained the lowest throughout the same period.

At the beginning, the amount spent on beef stood at 45 million, increasing significantly to the highest point of 54 million in 2012. The figure for chicken started much lower at 36 million, although it experienced a dramatic rise to overtake that for beef at the end of this period, with expenditure reaching a peak of 59 million, which was the highest figure overall.

There was also a considerable climb in spending on potatoes from 11 to 18 million, while the amount spent on milk rose minimally from 13 to only 14 million during the 20-year period. By contrast, the figures for butter/margarine and coffee remained almost unchanged and under 10 million over these years.
